Sherri Ybarra has dedicated her life to education, with a focus on improving the lives of Idaho’s students and teachers. As Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, she brings more than 20 years of experience in various educational roles, including classroom teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, Federal Programs Director, Curriculum Director, and State Superintendent.
Sherri holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, an M.A. in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.S. with an emphasis in the Superintendency. She is currently working on completing her Doctorate. A true “Idahoan,” Sherri has lived in Idaho for over 20 years and resides in Mountain Home with her husband of 18 years and their 17-year-old son. Sherri enjoys spending quality time with her family, participating in activities like bowling, swimming, and baseball.
As a strong advocate for local control of schools, Sherri has consistently worked alongside the Idaho Legislature and other elected leaders to develop a collaborative vision and plan for education in Idaho. Her “service first” agenda prioritizes support for schools and students, ensuring that they have the resources they need to achieve success.
Throughout her first term as Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Sherri has achieved numerous accomplishments, such as updating the Idaho Content Standards, increasing graduation rates, saving millions through cost-saving measures, and launching anti-bullying initiatives. Sherri is now seeking re-election to continue her mission of providing strong, experienced leadership and creating a brighter future for Idaho’s students and educators.
