Sherri Ybarra’s lifelong passion for education has led her to serve Idaho’s students and teachers with dedication, expertise, and a true love for her chosen field. As Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Sherri’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for all students has been demonstrated through her extensive background in various roles, from classroom teacher to State Superintendent.
Originally from Mountain Home, Idaho, Sherri holds a B.A. in Elementary Education, an M.A. in Educational Leadership, and an Ed.S. with an emphasis in the Superintendency. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate, further solidifying her expertise in the field of education. Sherri’s dedication extends beyond her professional life, as she also treasures spending quality time with her husband and their 17-year-old son, participating in activities like bowling, swimming, and baseball.
Sherri’s unwavering belief in the importance of local control of schools has shaped her approach to her role as Superintendent, where she works collaboratively with the Idaho Legislature and other elected leaders to create a comprehensive vision and plan for education in the state. Her “service first” mindset prioritizes the needs of schools and students, ensuring they have the necessary resources and support to excel.
During her first term as Idaho’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, Sherri’s tireless efforts have led to significant accomplishments such as updating the Idaho Content Standards, increasing graduation rates, implementing cost-saving measures, and launching anti-bullying initiatives. As she seeks re-election, Sherri is determined to continue providing strong, experienced leadership to guide Idaho’s education system toward a brighter future.
